A Rail-Resources Reboot

The Platform website pulled into the station this morning, bringing with it a carriage full of high-quality, bespoke educational resources. The team want teachers to engage in the railway, local-learning, and sustainable education, but time is tight in schools, and teachers are under more pressure than ever.

That’s why Platform have designed their own range of resources, that are available free of charge on the website; teachers, you don’t even need to put in an email address, meaning you can download in a matter of seconds.

The Platform resources are designed by teachers, for teachers, and are tightly linked to the curriculum. In fact, the main learning outcome for every one of Platform’s lessons is a curriculum objective, they are then tied into a Platform theme: rail, sustainability, local-areas.

For example:

  • A Need for Speed meets curriculum objectives for KS3 Physics and Maths – but the content is trains!
  • Bristol Mystery meets KS2 curriculum objectives for DT and History, through locally-based learning.
  • Action Stations meets curriculum objectives for KS3 and KS4 Geography, whilst focusing on climate change and sustainability.

As well as holding bespoke Platform resources, the site also acts as a central hub for all the wonderful pre-existing rail-related sites and lessons, incorporating them into the resource search results before leading teachers to exactly where they need to go.

At present, there are over 50 resources available to access from the Platform website, and the Platform team are delighted that half of these are their own unique lessons.

From the SATs style guided reading paper – SATs…But Make it Trains – to the innovative history of transport lesson – Time Travelling; the Platform team have used their up to date curriculum knowledge, their experience as teachers, and their understanding of the pressures in the classroom right now to try and bring schools wonderful learning experiences, in as easy a way as possible.
